5 Options
Charles Darwin put forth that there were three options available to life when the environment turned inhospitable: migrate, adapt, or die. However, the "fight or flight" reflex that is found in all advanced species, is not fully represented by these three options. To flee is to migrate, but what is to fight? Is to fight to adapt or to die? Well, the answer is neither. (Never mind the fact that death is not an option – it's a result.) Charles Darwin was not wrong; it is just that his theories are no longer accurate enough to explain the world as we see it today.
To explain the planets revolutions accurately Isaac Newton had to develop calculus. To explain our modern world more accurately I offer the Five Options.
In the interest of survival, all life must pursue balance within its environment. When the balance becomes skewed there are five options available:
1.Do Nothing.
Doing Nothing is when an individual accepts the judgment of Chance or someone else's will – which from their perspective is Chance.
2.Migrate (Flight).
Migration is when an individual relocates to an environment that it can find balance with.
3.Compete (Fight). (Competition is only one option.)
To Fight is to accept the judgment of competition with other individuals in the environment. [During a Fight, the Fight becomes its own environment, within which all options can be used to achieve victory... a micro environment, if you will.]
4.Adapt.
Adaptation is when an individual changes their individuality to find balance within a changing environment.
5.Create.
To Create is to make something that augments individual traits or acts as a barrier to a changing environment, and can also be changing the environment to fit their individuality. (While the ability to create is an adaptation, like the ability to migrate is, creation is not adaptation. Adaptation is growing a thicker coat for a cooler winter, while Creation is building a house, bird nest, or beaver dam. Creation can be very dangerous if not understood and misused.)
If an individual does not find balance within its environment it will die.
All life is included in these options, but not all life has access to all five options because our ability to evolve has also evolved.
