The Evolution of Selection Methods

There are two aspects of evolution - a yin and a yang if you will - the masculine aspect is survival and the feminine is reproduction. (Masculine and feminine are not used in relation to any specific gender or sexuality.) Survival is brute, instant, and thoughtless. Reproduction is nuanced, long term, and thoughtful. There are three survival selection methods and three reproductive. The masculine selection methods all enhance an individuals ability to survive, while the feminine selection method enhances a species ability to evolve.

The three Survival (Masculine) Selection Methods are Congregate, Industrial, and Political, and the three Reproductive (Feminine) Selection Methods are Reactive, Social, and Progressive.

1. Congregate Selection is the simple fact that there is strength in numbers. Fish are more likely to survive when in a school than while swimming alone.
2. Reactive Selection is when two individuals are required for reproduction (which requires them to live together in a congregation first) and physical attributes are the means of invoking a sexual reaction. For example, color of feathers or pheromones.
3. Industrial Selection is when the school of fish begins to work together to insure survival. An example of a species that has perfected the Industrial Selection Method is honey bees.
4. Social Selection is when two individuals are required to reproduce, but an individual can override the reaction; each individual is able to use their own criteria to select a mate. For example, a woman might choose a man with a certain career.
5. Political Selection is when then honey bees start limiting membership in their hives according to shared Industrial goals. And eventually leads to new criteria for Congregating.
6. Progressive Selection is when an individual chooses a mate from a group of suitable mates based on a new criteria. That is, if a woman choose to mate with a teacher and finds herself in a room full of handsome and polite teachers, then she might choose the one she feels most emotionally connected to. Which will cause the cycle to begin again with people who feel emotionally connected to Congregate.

The three methods in each group build upon one another. For example, the Congregate Method must be maintained for the Industrial Method to establish, and both of those must be achieved and maintained for the Political Method to establish. And, there is a developmental interrelationship between the Masculine and Feminine methods. At the beginning of life there were no selection methods. The first to be established was the Congregate Method for better survival. Only after life began living in clusters could Reproductive Selection have established. Then, individuals began to organize into working groups – based on the attributes of reproduction – which is the Industrial Method. From the restrictive Industrial structures Social Selection emerged, which set the stage for Political Selection. And, now we can see the Progressive Method only beginning to show itself in the form of emotional connection.
